Biography

The circle is a constant preoccupation: the most elemental and universal shape, it forms the core of much of Caroline’s current work. It is the fundamental shape and is found everywhere, both in nature and within cultures all around the planet. It also connects to her meditation on the fugitive nature of memory over time, the existence of an instant, a gesture, a trace which would otherwise be lost. Music, dance…how is the feeling of that fleeting moment recalled?

She uses the expressive and gestural quality of brush and ink, as well as gesso, paint, gilding and piercing in her explorations into the fluidity and fugitive quality of memory and the attempt to record the immaterial. An element of chance plays a part in the creative process with the ever-present element of unpredictability playing its part as in life.
